I do not normally watch nature television shows because the animals in the show die because that's how nature works. And I don't object to nature working that way but I don't like to watch animals die, especially if I have been rooting for them. In general, though, I really like nature and spending time in nature. ANYWAY, I decided to try the first episode of The Green Planet with Sir David Attenborough because I wouldn't get too emotionally attached to the plants and also because David Attenborough. He knows his onions, as they say.
The first episode is about the rainforest and was fascinating. They used a lot of timelapse photography to show how badass the plants are. They showed a vine swinging these feelers around until it found the leaf of another plant and then hauled itself up on that plant, strangling said leaf in the process. Whoa.
I also realized how much I have taken balsa wood for granted, never once questioning where it comes from or how it grows or anything. Turns out it is a rainforest plant, grows very quickly, but does not live very long as a result. And the kinkajou is instrumental in it's reproduction.
There are four more episodes, each talking about a different plant world, including water, desert, and human. I dont actually watch much tv but this was interesting and fairly soothing so I may watch some more in the future.
