Tonight I went to a local high school production of Arsenic and Old Lace. I don't know about where you live, but the high school theatrical productions around here are well worth your time. I'm not saying I haven't seen a dud or two in the last twenty years, but for the most part, I find them really well done. Tonight's show was no exception. The acting was really solid. The sets were well made. Teenagers do not always make believable adults, but that wasn't that big of a deal. (High School boys are, generally speaking, much skinnier than adult men. Suits don't really sit on them right. It's not anybody's fault and I can get past it.) There were also a few fast talkers but I was able to follow along okay.
In general, I can't think of anything that I would have really done differently with tonight's performance. If I had to pick something, it would be that they made the characters take a weird path to one of the exits. It is possible that we were supposed to deduce something about the layout of the house in the play because of the path the characters walked but it looked to me like they were just taking the long way around for no reason. It was a little distracting, but also not that much of a big deal.
I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's performance. It was a really good play for spooky season and definitely had the right atmosphere. If you haven't seen the movie with Cary Grant, add it to your "tbw". (If readers can use "tbr" for books they plan to read, I think we can also use "tbw" for things you want to watch.)
