Mr. and Mrs. North (TV review)

Mr. and Mrs. North is another Tubi tv gem, also based on book.  This time it is actually based on a series of books by Frances and Richard Lockridge.  Jerry North is a publisher and Pam is his wife.  They live an upper middle class life in New York City in the middle of the twentieth century.  Somehow, they always seem to get entangled in a mystery, which Pam loves and Jerry does not.  Pam is always wacky and seems kind of dumb, but she usually ends up solving the mystery.

In addition to this TV show and the original 26 books, the characters were featured in a play, radio shows, and a movie.  (The movie starred Gracie Allen and is definitely something I am going to try to search out!)  I just discovered, however, that the characters started life in short vignettes which were later expanded into short stories for The New Yorker.  So this is really a multi-media empire!

If you like Nick and Nora Charles of The Thin Man films, you should give the Norths a try in one medium or another.  They are along the same vane, although Pam is a little zanier than Nora and Jerry less urbane than Nick.  (Also you just can't beat William Powell and Myrna Loy.)
