For the TV Critic badge, I have been tasked with watching five television shows and reviewing them. The first was The Dick Van Dyke Show from the 1960s, which John has been asking me to watch with him for a long time. He grew up watching it and has fond memories of the show.
The show is about Rob Petrie*, the head writer for a TV show. Part of the time, the show centers on his life at work and part of the time on his home life, with his wife, Laura, and son, Richie. (I found that kid irritating immediately. He had this smirk on this face that told you he knows EXACTLY how cute he is. This is something that I cannot stand.)
*Can I just say that I always think it is weird when a show is named for an actor rather than a character. Like this should have been The Rob Petrie Show. And instead of The Cosby Show, The Huxtable Show. And so on. In the case of The Carol Burnett Show, it was a variety/sketch comedy show not centered around a character, so that makes sense to me. Same with The Tracy Ullman Show.
It was fine? I will start by saying that, in general, sitcoms aren't my thing. But this one was fine. I don't have much to say about it, honestly. It was fine. I would watch more if someone else really wanted to but I won't go out of my way to seek it out.
